Abu Dhabi's KALIMA puts focus on children's literature WAM Abu Dhabi, Feb 08th, 2009 (WAM): Works of world famous writers for children like Peter Pauwels-Stockli, Yvonne Goldner-Beivi, Florence Develey, Patril Etschmayer, and Doris Dorrie - to name but a few- will appear for the first time in Arabic language, thanks to KALIMA. KALIMA, a major translation initiative launched by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), announced today that it will publish a series of creative translated international works dedicated to children. The translations, of works originally from France, Germany, Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Korea and Japan, will be released at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair 2009. KALIMA has also invited the New York-born renowned children's author Susan Roth to give a number of workshops in Abu Dhabi on writing for children, illustrations, methods of selecting children's books and the best ways of reading them. Roth praised KALIMA, which she described as a brilliant initiative that aims to build bridges to bring people together, and work to spread the message of peace. According to Dr. Ali bin Tamim, Director of KALIMA, the project's new series not only aims to increase the level of reading among children, but the choice of literature would further open up children's knowledge to outside cultures and, in the long run, promote a better understanding and acceptance of the other. KALIMA's new focus on child literature is part of ADACH's strategy to strengthen UAE youth creativity skills and imagination from an early stage. WAM/AB |
